the Indside Man (Own Genre)

Camerawork:

The use of this close up shows us that the attention is on him and he is going to give detail about a situation or give reason for why he is there. It also makes us as an audience focus on him more because we know that this is the protagonist as we are shown him straight away.

The use of this long shot sets the scene of where he is. It is effective because we can see the condition that he is living in and makes us feel sympathetic for the character because of this. We know that this is his punishment but the use of the long shot in a small room shows his neglection from the rest of the world and makes us wonder if this has changed his character or not.

Sound:

The use of the voice over becomes effective in this part because it gives the audience an idea of him talking to himself to keep himself occupied. Due to him being on his own, he is obviously neglected from the rest of civilisation. By him using the voice over it makes the situation more real and could be the voices in his head talking to him to make up for the lack of friendship.

His voice is clear which emphasises how stressful the situation he is in is. His voice is quite hyperbolic as his surroundings are very quiet as we know he is alone. His tone of voice sounds fed up and stressed which adds to the atmosphere of him getting tired. The voice drags in a low pitch tone which makes the audience a bit worried and sets the character up as one that is going to have done something bad which although is very stereotypical it is clear by his voice.

Mise En Scene:

As we see here the clothes he wears fits in with the background, this makes us as an audience think that he is no more than just a shadow and doesn't exist and isn't noticed which fits in with the situation he is at the moment. This makes the audience want to know why he can't come out because we feel like each part of his personality is disappearing with each second that goes on as he fades slowly. The use of the flag and the tall buildings sets the scene up and shows us that the character who done the crime must be intelligent  because the country he done it in is so supreme. The buildings make the audience realise that the place has wealth and is popular and for the criminal to do his crime he had to be very smart to get as far as he did before getting caught

The Conventions of a thriller.

Mise en scene:
Low key lighting to show the importance of the character in the bath. The low key lighting will highlight the fact that an incident has happened and there is a mystery that needs to be solved.

This convention is used to get the audiences attention on a certain aspect of the film.  We are using it to make the audience think that the person in the bath is obviously dead however when he wakes up they know it's a dream but it leaves them asking questions whether the dream will come true or not.

Sound:
The sound we are using for our thriller is slow paced because it creates a calm atmosphere which contrasts with the scene. The use of the slow music makes the film seem peaceful and when the audience see the scene they wonder why the music is so slow paced.

The music will be put in slow motion so the audience have a chance to notice the extreme detail and acknowledge the situation that the person is in. As the music starts to quicken the pace of the editing becomes quicker from him struggling then as he sits up the music stops and the person sits up.

Cinematography:

The shots are going to vary but mostly using close ups to show detail but not giving away too much. The shots that use the close ups are going to show him being in the bath and him struggling to break free and through close ups they see how desperate the character actually is.

We will also use a few high angles to show how the status contrasts with the modern day roles of men and women. Due to the high angle showing the girl drowning the boy it makes the audience wonder how she got in that situation and when the close up comes of him waking up the audience are left wondering his status.

Characters:

There are only going to be two characters in the opening sequence to show the protagonist and the female. The audience is left wondering who is the protagonist because it's the female who strangles the male which herefore puts the focus on her.

However when the male wakes up the audience know that he is the main character because the focus is from then on on him, but also the audience know that the female that done the drowning will also play a big part in the film.

Spiderwick Chronicles

Memento

Memento is a thriller and it tells the audience this right from the start. The blue text gives a sense of cold and unease. The picture in the background keeps you interested in what is the picture and makes you ask questions such as why is the picture there. They do a close up of the picture however you cannot clearly make out what it is.This is a good way of gaining the audiences attention as they want to put pieces together and answer their own questions.

The sound  is very blunt and gives an uncomfortable feeling. Digetic sound that is hyperbolic is used to emphasis the tension building. The start of the film, he is in a dark room which could represent him being stuck in his own little world, alone . Also, the background is black and white which can represent when he is putting his thinking all together. Some  mise-en-scene which is the characters clothing. The director has put the main character in bright clothing to make the audience ask the question of why is he in the suit and qustion his character.

Throughout the opening sequence of the film, close ups are always used in thrillers. Also, anotherangle was the low angle shot when the guy was looking up at the guy with the gun. This is used t show the status between the two characters and also to show the good and bad.

The pace of the editing is very fast when there are close ups of the smaller objects that are on the  ground. There are just simple cuts between shots involving no transiations as they are not nessesary. At the start the black background slowly fades into a close up of him holding the photo which is a fade out.

Preliminary Task

WWW: We were able to use different shot types to make the task more interesting E.g. an over the shoulder shot of me and Aaron talking.

EBI: In one of the shots there is loads of space which isn't being used. This would be good if someone was to walk into this space but because no one doesn't  then it lacks meaning
